Clearing Up Your Acne
Acne treatment is not one size fits all and it’s important to understand that clearing up your skin takes time. Your dermatologist may recommend several types of treatments and may even suggest doing more than one at a time. Everyone’s skin reacts differently to treatment and acne occurs for different reasons. It’s important to remember that you have options and that there are many ways to get the clear skin you’ve been wanting!
Common forms of treatment include: topical retinoids for moderate acne; antibiotics if you’re dealing with bacteria; salicylic acid to help unclog follicles; and dapsone for inflammatory acne.
These medications can also be combined with different therapies to help treat your skin and the cause of your acne. Our dermatologist might recommend light therapy, chemical peels, extraction, or steroid injections. You may have to try several options and combinations before finding the one that works best for you! It’s important to talk to your dermatologist about your symptoms and find out what your best options might be.
