What types of skin cancer are there?
There are three main types of skin cancer and the type you’re dealing with will depend on where it originated in your body. The most common form of skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma, and this occurs in the deepest layers of your skin. Next is squamous cell carcinoma. This form of skin cancer originates in the upper layer of the skin. The least common but most dangerous form of skin cancer is melanoma. This often is found inside of existing moles, which is why it’s so important that you’re checking your moles on a regular basis.
What are the common signs of skin cancer?
Each form of skin cancer comes with its own symptoms, but one thing you can look out for is irregularities in your skin. If you notice that there are lesions or spots on your skin that didn’t exist before, you may want to talk to your dermatologist to test for skin cancer.
How can you prevent skin cancer?
The easiest way to prevent skin cancer is by avoiding direct sunlight. You should be sure to avoid peak sun hours and cover up as much skin as possible when you do need to go in the sun. Wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses, as well as sunscreen anytime you go outside.
