When examining your skin for cancer warning signs, remembering the ABCDEs simplifies the process.
Asymmetry: Melanoma often begins in existing moles, distorting their shape into asymmetrical forms, whereas benign moles maintain a uniform, even appearance throughout.
Border: Melanoma causes mole borders to become poorly defined or take irregular shapes.
Color: Multiple color shades or color changes in a mole warrant dermatologist evaluation, since typical moles are uniformly brown.
Diameter: Moles should remain under 6mm (pencil eraser-sized). Larger moles require professional assessment.
Evolution: Normal moles remain stable. Any significant changes in appearance necessitate prompt dermatological care.
